Let's Flourish Together!

How to be a True Success By Pastor Deola Phillips

This message reveals that true success is not determined by circumstances, position, or background, but by walking in God’s plan and meditating on His Word. Through the lives of David and Joseph, we learn that success comes from within — from a spirit trained by God’s wisdom. No matter where life places you, when the Lord is with you and you deal wisely through His Word, you will prosper, rise, and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

How to be a True Success.

By Pastor Deola Phillips

🔹 True success is not circumstantial.

🔹 To be successful, you have to ask yourself, “Whose plan is it? Whose goal is it?”

🔹 Success is defined as the achievement of a predetermined goal. Something was said to be done, and it's done, and you say, “That was successful.” So, success means you achieve the set goal.

🔹 When we talk about true success, we're also asking, “What goal? Whose goal? What was the goal that you set out to achieve? Who gave you the goal?” Because the one who is going to judge whether you have been a success in life is not you. Neither is it your friends or your family. Nor is it the people around you. It's God.

🔹 Jeremiah 29:11 (Amplified)
“For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you,” says the Lord. “Thoughts and plans for welfare and peace, not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”

🔹 God has thoughts and plans for you. So, what is your own plan? Is it lining up with God's plan? He has a plan about you. He has a plan about your life. He has a plan for your today, for your future.

🔹 Ephesians 2:10 (Amplified)
“For we are God's own handiwork, his workmanship, recreated in Christ Jesus, born anew, that we may do those good works which God predestined, planned beforehand for us.”

🔹 God has planned some works that you are supposed to do. Taking paths which he prepared ahead of time. God also planned your journey in life. Where you're supposed to go, who you're supposed to meet, when you're supposed to get there. All that is in a plan, in a master plan.

🔹 “Living the good life which he prearranged and made ready for us to live.” So, God also planned a good life for you.

🔹 Have you asked yourself this goal that you are pursuing? This dream that you are pursuing? Does it fit into God's plan?

🔹 Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

🔹 He calls it good success. Meaning that there's a kind of success that may not be good success.

🔹 That word good success is the Hebrew word sakal. It means to be prudent. To deal wisely. To prosper. To have insight. To give attention to.

🔹 There's a way of dealing wisely with life. There's a way of dealing wisely with people, with affairs, with situations, with circumstances. There's a way of dealing wisely with those around you, with money.

🔹 As you meditate on the word of God, the word will cause you to deal wisely. You will handle things wisely.

🔹 1 Samuel 18

🔹 David went out wherever Saul sent him.

🔹 Some people pick and choose what they do. You are told to do this particular assignment. Do you pick and choose what you do? Do you decide what's going to happen or what's not going to happen?

🔹 Maybe you are in an office. You're working somewhere. Do you do whatever you are told to do or wherever you are sent to go? Or do you have reasons why this one will not work this time?

🔹 “And he prospered and behaved himself wisely.”

🔹 David is known as somebody that is successful. He behaves himself wisely and successfully.

🔹 Saul became jealous of David because the Lord was with him.

🔹 Saul removed David from him and made him commander over a thousand.

🔹 Change of circumstance.

🔹 Is David going to become nothing because he was transferred?

🔹 1 Samuel 18:14
“David acted wisely in all his ways and succeeded. And the Lord was with him.”

🔹 True success is not circumstantial. It's about who you are. It's not about your relationship to the person in charge, it's about your relationship to the Holy Spirit.

🔹 No matter where you are transferred to, when you get there, you act wisely in all your ways and you will succeed because the Lord is with you.

🔹 True success is a quality of your personality, your spirit.

🔹 True success replicates itself in every phase of your life.

🔹 Saul said, “Go and kill a hundred Philistines.” Hoping that maybe they would kill him.

🔹 But it pleased David. There's no challenge that is too big for a successful man.

🔹 You are given the highest target in the office. You are pleased because it's going to take you to another level.

🔹 You are given the toughest job, the toughest challenge. You are pleased.

🔹 David went and slew 200 Philistine men.

🔹 1 Samuel 18:30
“David had more success and behaved himself more wisely than all Saul's servants, so that his name was very dear and highly esteemed.”

🔹 God said to Joshua, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth.”

🔹 David himself said:

🔹 Psalm 119:97-101 (Amplified)
“Oh, how I love thy law. It is my meditation all the day.”

🔹 “You through your commandments make me wiser than my enemies. For your words are ever before me.”

🔹 “I have better understanding and deeper insight than all my teachers because your testimonies are my meditation.”

🔹 “I understand more than the aged because I keep your precepts.”

🔹 “Hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them.”

🔹 David became successful in every situation he found himself. Everywhere he went, he was successful. Every assignment he went, he was successful.

🔹 Success comes from inside. Dealing wisely with life.

🔹 Genesis 39

🔹 Joseph was brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar bought him.

🔹 He was a slave. No position of advantage at all. Somebody paid for him. Bought his time. Bought his dreams and aspirations.

🔹 Genesis 39:2
“And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man.”

🔹 He was in the house of his master, the Egyptian, and his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

🔹 A servant. And the Bible calls him a prosperous man.

🔹 Whatever your position is in your institution, if there's success in your spirit, you'll be a prosperous man.

🔹 It won't take long before you start journeying upwards.

🔹 Wherever you start doesn't matter. You'll find yourself journeying upwards.

🔹 Joseph served.

🔹 One of the definitions of success: “Success is looking out for a human need and reaching out to meet that need.” That is service.

🔹 Look for opportunities to be of assistance, to help.

🔹 One of the meanings of sakal is to be observant.

🔹 Do you observe what's going on around you? Do you take notice of the challenges people are facing? Because you are the answer to those challenges.

🔹 Your success is in meeting the needs of others. Solving the problems of others.

🔹 To be successful is to be observant.

🔹 Observe yourself. What are the things in you that you can offer to somebody else? What are those peculiar things that you can do, that you can make happen for others? Start cultivating them.

🔹 Your wealth is inside you. Your wealth is around you.

🔹 You're not going to have to go far to be a success. It's all around you.

🔹 Observe others around you. Observe their pains. What makes people cry? What makes them hurt?

🔹 Answer those questions. Answer those challenges. Meet those needs.

🔹 As you do so, you will discover true success.

🔹 Joseph was put into prison.

🔹 Genesis 39:21-23
“But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy.”

🔹 The keeper of the prison committed to Joseph all the prisoners that were in the prison.

🔹 “Because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.”

🔹 He's in another phase of life, but there's prosperity there. There's success there.

🔹 “I'm a prosperous man. I'm a successful man. My prosperity, my success, my influence are not circumstantial.”

🔹 “It makes no difference where I start. Every day, I'm in an upward motion. Always moving upwards by the power of God.”

🔹 When a man is prosperous, it doesn't matter where you put him. He will impact that environment with his personality.

🔹 Success is impacting your world with investment of your personality.

🔹 Joseph said:

🔹 Genesis 50:20
“You thought evil against me, but God meant it unto good.”

🔹 Everything will turn out for your good.

🔹 Jeremiah 29:11
“I know the thoughts I have towards you, thoughts of good, not of evil, to bring you an expected end.”

🔹 The blessing of God in your life is so that no evil can be successful against you.

🔹 True success is following God's plan, looking out for needs to meet them, impacting your world with investment of your personality, making things happen for others.

🔹 2 Chronicles 9:5-8 (Amplified)

🔹 The Queen of Sheba said to Solomon:
“The report which I heard in my own land of your acts and sayings and of your wisdom are true.”

🔹 “The half of the greatness of your wisdom was not told me.”

🔹 “You surpass the fame that I heard of you.”

🔹 “Blessed be the Lord your God who delighted in you and set you on his throne to be king for the Lord your God.”

🔹 True success is not just being king. King for the Lord.

🔹 Understanding that your office, your authority, your wealth, your riches, your prosperity are for the Lord.

🔹 You are a success not for yourself, but for God.

🔹 You are reigning for God. You are ruling for God.

🔹 Everything God has given to you is for his purpose, for his work, for his will.

🔹 “Yes, I'm king for God. The things I do, the life I live is for God. I serve his purposes. I serve his will. I'm a true success because I live for God.”

🔹 If you are a child of God, you are a seed of Abraham.

🔹 Whether you start as a slave or you start as a prisoner or you move to being a servant, whatever the case, you are a prosperous man, a true success.

🔹 All that will happen is promotion to promotion.

🔹 Meditate on the word of God. That's the secret.

🔹 David said, “Your testimonies are my meditation.”

🔹 God said to Joshua, “If you meditate on the word of God day and night, you will observe to do according to all that is written therein.”

🔹 “Then you will make your way prosperous. You will deal wisely and be successful in life.”
