The Pursuit of Purpose- Episode 3
This is a note of the Message by pastor Chris "The pursuit of Purpose:" .......Don’t give up your humility. Are you listening to me? Struggle! Fight to remain humble. I said fight. I’m telling you, fight for it. It’s not easy to be humble. Fight for it because things will happen around you or to you that will make you puffed up. That could awaken the carnal man in you. Fight! The Greek word is engratia—hold yourself in, self-restraint. Hold yourself in. ....

Everything in Life Has Intelligence
If you feel a headache, you don’t say, “I have a headache,” because we don’t have headaches. We are in the realm of life, so we don’t have headaches. If we feel it, we rebuke it; we tell it where to go. Things are going. If I have stomach pain, I don’t have it—I might have felt it, I could feel it, yes, but I don’t have it. I cannot have it. In the name of Jesus, stomach, you are normal!
Did you know before people become poor, they first see themselves as poor? You may ask, “What if their parents were poor and they were brought up poor?” The poor parents taught the children that they were poor. As kids, they didn’t know they were poor. They didn’t know what poverty was until Mom and Dad said, “We don’t have any money. See those people on the other side of the road? They are rich. We are poor.” And as the little child grew up, they believed, “There are rich ones and there are poor ones, and we belong to the poor ones.” I refuse to be poor!
Don’t be carried away. Don’t miss God. Be careful what voices you listen to. If you listen to a voice of someone who has missed God, he could destroy your life. I’ll read something to you from the Bible.
Don’t give up your humility.
This journey of salvation we are in is a personal journey. I tell people in church, “Look, remember, you came to this church for your own salvation. Don’t let someone else mislead you. Be careful. If God has sent someone to you, listen to him. Listen to him. The day you start listening to several voices, that’s when your trouble starts.”
The Story of Jonathan
I think about the young man Jonathan. Jonathan could have been great if he had known. Imagine if someone had preached what I’m preaching to you now to Jonathan—he could have saved his life. Have you ever wondered why good men die along with evil men? Let me show you.
1 Samuel 23—remember, David at this time was a young lad. He had slain Goliath and had been anointed to be king of Israel, but he had not yet become king. He was anointed in the presence of his brethren, in his father’s house—that means among his kinfolk. The king, Saul, had loved him and brought him to live in the palace. But Saul continually resented David.
David had become persona non grata because Saul heard the singing: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” Saul said, “What? They attribute to me thousands and to David ten thousands? That means they prefer David to me. He must die.” He hated David for it and continually sought a way to kill him. But his son Jonathan, the heir to the throne, Prince Jonathan, loved David with all his heart.
Jonathan was older than David. He was the prince, the crown prince. When he came by, they said, “Hold up, crown prince here!” and everybody stood up. And Jonathan walked by. This was Jonathan, who loved David.
Hear what he said to David in 1 Samuel 23:16: “And Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David into the wood and strengthened his hand in God. And he said unto him, ‘Fear not, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee, and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee. And that also Saul my father knoweth.’”
He said, “David, fear not! My father’s hand shall not come against you. He can’t kill you. You shall be king of Israel, and I shall be next to you.” Jonathan was a righteous man. He had known the will and purpose of God for David. He knew it. He said, “And this my father knows also.” The crown prince was talking. He was ready to give up the throne because he knew that David had the anointing of God and would be king. Then he said, “And I shall be next to you.” He knew it.
These two men had a path together, and he would have been next to David. He had this revelation, he knew he would be next to David. let's read chapter 20 same book; there was a day, the day of the new moon and the king usually on that first day of the month would call all those in the palace. There were those who ate with the king at his table and David had become one of them the king had made it so and he had planned that day to slay David but he didn't show up let's see what happened here; 1 Samuel 20:24 "So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat. And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty. Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean" He thought something had gone wrong with David maybe he's dead you know, verse 27 "And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David's place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day? And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem. And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table. Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman2,..... you know when the father is so angry against he calls him the bad son of a good father the bad son of a bad mother. Have you seen it verse 30 "Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness? For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die". He said to his son as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground you will not become king. Go get him for he shall surely die read the rest of the story; then Jonathan informed David: he said my father has really planned evil against you, escape for your life but you see I wish someone had taught Jonathan spiritual things this was the time not only for David to flee but for Jonathan to flee, he should have fled and followed David because he was where the spirit was going. The spirit of god had departed from Saul, you stay where the spirit is. But he didn’t act on it. Instead, he chose biological relationship—“I am the king’s son. Where else should I go?” Then there was war. Saul went to war. Jonathan, his son, went with him. They both died the same day.
Why did Jonathan die, even though he was such a great and good man? God’s purpose for him was the seat next to David. He had known it, but he didn’t fulfill it because he listened to a wicked father. You can listen to a wicked uncle. You can listen to the wrong brother or sister who helps you get out of God’s will.
Don’t Miss God
Don’t miss God! Don’t let someone’s anger frustrate you out of God’s will. Don’t let someone’s mistreatment of you frustrate you out of God’s will.
Hagar was being mistreated by Sarah. She punished Hagar until Hagar fled. But the Bible says God came to Hagar and said, “Hagar, what are you doing here?” She said, “I’m fleeing from my mistress. She’s mistreating me and my little boy. What shall I do?” God said, “Hagar, go back and humble yourself.” God didn’t say, as some would expect, “I have seen the wickedness. From now on, I promote you.” No! God said, “Go back and humble yourself under Sarah.”
We talk about the righteous judgments of God; When God comes into a situation, He doesn’t look for who’s right or wrong. He provides his own will his perfect will. That’s what counts. It's not all the things you want to judge, and so and so. She said and so he said and so they said and so and so and so and so you can convince anybody you like but if only you knew that God was not looking at who was right and who was wrong, God was looking to establish His will and purpose -The pursuit of purpose. Don't miss God! I'm talking to you because some of you have one foot outside the will of God already. There are some of you here- the spirit of God has sent me to talk to you; Don't miss God! This reminds me of a story of a man who was very influential in a certain church. He had a lot of money and he was also a member of the board of the church. So, when they were building their church structure a new building for the church because the old one was so full and more and more people, the church was really growing and so they needed a new building. They decided to vote a certain amount of money for the new building he said no he refused and the constitution was that all the members of the board must agree for them to proceed but this particular member of the board said no and he was the wealthiest
financially so when he said no the project was frustrated. No movement and could not proceed to build the new building for the church. Several months later, this was his own story he was with his two daughters going to look at his new house as the trying to cross the express one old jalopy became down the incline and knocked the two girls down and killed them on the spot. He said there in the middle of that highway I heard the voice of God. God said you will not allow my people to build me a church now you have built yourself a house for your two daughters he said now they wouldn't even enter. Was God punishing him? No he opened the way for that adversary to come into his life. He mentioned that the reason he said no was because he was the one that would have to give a lot of money for it. He had given so much to the church and if he said yes let them build a new one he will have to give more and he wanted to finish his own house God said because of your house you will not let my people build me a house but you built one for yourself and your two daughters, and now they wouldn't even enter.
I don't know what in your life is more important to you
I don't know what you think about the most
I don't know how you have prepared your heart to serve God but this is between you and God. Your heart your state of mind!
I say to you, prepare your heart to serve the Lord in truth and reality. Don’t miss God. It’s easy to miss God. What’s the reason you do the things you do? What’s the reason?
There are churches where if there's another church having a large program near them
they will start a convention to make sure nobody from theirs goes there I've never had to do such things
it doesn't matter to me if you have 10 churches surrounding us here don't make any difference
don't get angry about maybe another church coming to start one near you
don't let such things bother you. Let your spirit be greater than your environment. Don’t allow carnal competition. We can have righteous competition among ourselves to outdo our past and challenge one another in the things of God. When we stand before the Master at the judgment seat of Christ, the Bible says, “Then shall every man have praise of God.” We will all be praised by Jesus Christ. Some more, some less, but He decides. but we shall all be praised that's what counts. That's what matters I may give instructions to you as a Pastor and say: do this or do that but I only give those instructions in his name which means you're not looking at a man, no! you're looking at the one who saved you. That's what counts. That’s what matters. When we win souls, to whom do they belong? Jesus! The Bible says the Lord, who knows all things, will be the one to reward you. Let Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of thy Lord.” That’s what you want to hear.
So we keep running this race!
Don't try to make your life easier, don't just do his will, don't wish away in an easier city for there is no such thing. Iif you will hold on to what God has told you to do, you will be amazed at the results. You will be amazed! Don't spend your time discussing non-essentials don't. invest your time in the right things
not in the wrong discussions.
What I'm saying to you is don't miss God, don't miss God! don't miss God! don't miss God! don't miss God! and what God has cleansed call not thou common, maybe you don't know what that means what God has cleansed call not thou common.
Never let anybody damage the reputation of anyone else to you, never let someone else call up your opinion, your good opinion of someone and turn it into a negative opinion. Hold your pure opinion, hold your good opinion, love sees the good in everyone. Don't accept the negative interpretations of someone's actions by some other fellow, no! it will destroy your sincerity. You want to walk free without all this baggage that people carry that stop them from progressing and making a success of their lives. Free yourself of such people who have all those comments about brother so-and-so sister so and so, pastor so and so and so and so, no! When they come among you, discuss spiritual things set the pace be different. Be different, dare to be different, be bold about it, become a positive influence that's what it should be.
Hallelujah !!!
lift your hands say glory to God
Don’t miss God. Hallelujah! Glory to God!
