The Devil Needs Your Permission

It’s a familiar feeling for many: being stuck, feeling like a victim of circumstances beyond our control. We look at the economy, political turmoil, or just a string of bad luck and resign ourselves to a passive reality. We echo phrases like, "you never can tell what's going to happen" or the fatalistic sigh of "whatever will be will be." In doing so, we often place the responsibility for our lives on external factors—or even make God the scapegoat for our struggles.

But what if this perspective is fundamentally flawed? What if you have far more control than you've been led to believe? What if the real issue isn't your circumstances, but your understanding of the spiritual reality you operate in? This feeling of helplessness is not your intended state; it is a symptom of not knowing the truth of your position.

This post explores six surprising and counter-intuitive truths from a spiritual perspective. Each one challenges the victim mindset, dismantles common deceptions, and reveals a reality where you are not a passive observer but an active participant with immense authority.

1. Your Adversary Can't Act Without Your Consent

One of the most radical shifts in perspective is understanding that spiritual oppression is not a random attack but an event that requires your permission. The devil cannot destroy your business, your home, or your finances without your consent. This isn't to say that people consciously invite disaster into their lives. Permission is often granted through ignorance of one's spiritual authority, but whether or not you knew about it makes no difference.

This idea moves the locus of control away from an all-powerful external foe and back to you. It transforms you from a passive target into an active gatekeeper who has the authority to grant or deny access. If negative patterns persist in your life, it is time to ask what door has been unknowingly opened and to consciously revoke that permission.

The devil cannot oppress you except with your permission. The only reason the devil can rule over any Christian is with his permission, with the permission of that Christian. Whether or not he does it consciously, the devil cannot destroy your business except with your permission.

2. Being a "Good Person" Isn't the Key to Success

Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people? This paradox is so common that one man recounted in the source material actually warned his children, "Look, don't be very good," because he observed that the morally upright often suffer. This leads many to the false conclusion that "the bad guys have all the good things" and that moral goodness should automatically result in a blessed and protected life. The surprising truth is that simply being a good, nice, and kind person will not, by itself, generate wealth, stop demonic oppression, or prevent sickness and poverty.

This doesn't mean you should stop being a good person; moral integrity is vital. However, spiritual victory and material change operate on a different set of principles. Success in the kingdom of God is not a reward for good behavior in the way we often think. It is accessed through understanding and applying specific spiritual truths, which are distinct from just being nice.

Your goodness will not change anything. ...being good... will not bring the money in, will not stop the devil from oppressing you, will not get rid of the sickness or disease or infirmity, and will not stop poverty from attacking you.

3. The Rules of the Game Have Already Changed

Many people operate based on outdated information, or "past truths." The source uses a simple analogy: knowing who a former president is doesn't help you navigate today's political landscape. You need to know the "present truth"—who holds power now. Spiritually, the present truth is that Jesus has already defeated, paralyzed, and rendered the devil powerless. Satan's only remaining tool is deception. His entire strategy is to lie and convince people they are still in bondage when, in reality, the prison door is wide open.

This is powerfully illustrated by an experiment with an insect in a jar. After repeatedly hitting its head on the lid, the insect became conditioned to that limitation. Even after the lid was removed, it continued to jump only to that same height, believing the barrier still existed. Many believers live this way, preconditioned by an old reality, unaware that the limitation has been removed. The truth is, the only thing holding you back is the belief in a lie. You just walk out. He can't hold you back.

The present Truth is that same devil has been paralyzed by Jesus and cannot hold anybody in bondage who proclaims the name of Jesus. You just walk out. He can't hold you back. The only way he can stop you is by lying to you that you are still in bondage.

4. You've Already Overcome the World's Systems

When Jesus declared, "I have overcome the world," he was referring to the cosmos—the world's systems, its order of things, and its circumstances. This monumental victory wasn't just for himself; it was secured for you to live in. This means you do not have to be a victim of a bad economy, political mismanagement, or any other negative worldly trend. Too many people adopt the victim mentality: "because they mismanaged the economy, look at my life."

You can adopt a different, more powerful stance. You can declare, as the source’s author did: “I made up my mind a long time ago... I'll never be a victim of the system... I don't care if they want to mismanage everything. It will not affect me.” This is not wishful thinking; it is activating your victory through faith. Your faith is the mechanism that allows you to operate outside of and above the world's limitations.

This is the victory that overcometh the world. even our faith.

5. God Isn't Keeping a Scorecard of Your Sins

A major obstacle that keeps people powerless is the belief that God is angry with them, constantly tallying their mistakes. The truth is that God's posture towards humanity is one of reconciliation. He was "in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their sins against them."

For the non-believer, this is God's urgent and passionate call: "Come, come, come." No matter how bad you think you are, you’re not too dirty for God. He’s not asking you to clean yourself up first; He is simply saying, "Come." For the believer, this is freedom from guilt. When Satan, "the accuser of the brethren," tries to rob you of your joy in worship by telling you to "take it down" or "shut up," you can stand firm knowing your standing isn't based on your performance. As Romans 5:8 states, "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us," underscoring that His love is unconditional.

6. You're Designed to Function from the Inside Out

Before their disobedience, Adam and Eve functioned from their spirit. This is why they didn't know they were naked; their reality was not defined by their five senses. It was only after they disobeyed that their senses took over. When God found them hiding, He asked a critical question: "Who told you that you were naked?"

This same question applies to you today. Who told you you're broke? Who told you you're sick? Who told you your business is failing? When you function from your spirit, your reality is defined by what God's Word says, not by what your senses perceive. This allows you to stand on spiritual truth and declare with authority what is real, regardless of circumstance. I function from my spirit. Therefore:

  • I cannot have diabetes.

  • I cannot be broke.

  • My business cannot fail.

  • My finances cannot fail.

  • Nothing about me can fail.

Conclusion: From Victim to Victor

The common feeling of being a victim of life is rooted in a misunderstanding of spiritual reality. These truths reveal a profound shift in identity. You are not a passive pawn subject to the whims of the devil, the world's systems, or your own past mistakes. You are an empowered believer who has been given authority and lives in an already-won victory.

This is your call to action. Recognize the victory Christ has already won for you, take hold of the authority you already possess, and begin to actively wield it through your faith.

Now that you know these truths, what one area of your life will you begin to take charge of today?
